New owners of Fyre Festival brand file lawsuit to get matching domain name

It’s the company’s second attempt to get the domain name FyreFestival .com.

A company that is trying to resurrect the doomed Fyre Festival has asked a court to help it get control of the domain FyreFestival .com.

LimeWr Fyre OU, which had its origins in the file-sharing business, negotiated rights to the Fyre Festival marks earlier this year.

The previous organizers of the failed event let the domain FyreFestival .com lapse.

So, after acquiring the trademarks, LimeWr filed a UDRP cybersquatting case against the domain. It lost that case, with the panelist stating that it did not show the domain registrant lacked rights or legitimate interests in the case, and failed to show it was registered and used in bad faith.

Now, it’s turning to the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia, where .com registry Verisign is located.

The in rem lawsuit (pdf) claims the domain was “re-registered” on July 21, 2025. Whois shows an initial registration date in August 2017.

Wiley Rein LLC filed the case, with Jason Schaeffer of Esqwire.com pending pro hac admission. Schaeffer represented the company in the UDRP.
