Reseller registrar launches after building buzz at industry conferences.

At long last, domain reseller registrar OpusDNS has launched.

The company, which sponsored last year’s NamesCon and this year’s CloudFest, has been building buzz around its new reseller platform. Its hypothesis is that the market is ready for a modern alternative to incumbent systems it says are outdated.

OpusDNS CEO North America, Robbie Birkner, previously cofounded reseller platform Hexonet, which Team Internet Group later acquired. The new company has assembled a team of domain industry veterans and is betting that its connections and credibility will help win over resellers.

Migrating platforms is no small task, but OpusDNS says it has focused on simplifying the process. In addition to serving traditional resellers, such as hosting companies and site builders, the platform could also be a fit for large domain portfolio holders.

OpusDNS offers three set packages and an enterprise tier. Pricing ranges from free to $129/month when paid annually, with the most significant differentiator being domain pricing. The $129/month plan adds a 15% markup to wholesale costs, which undercuts the biggest player in the space, Enom/OpenSRS.

For example, Enom/OpenSRS requires resellers to spend $50,000 annually and hit 500 new registrations or transfers to qualify for $12.50 .com pricing. OpusDNS’s $129/month plan offers them for $12.03, with no minimums.
