Squarespace joins Internet Commerce Association; Doerr to join board

Top domain registrar with over 13 million domains is now a member of organization that defends domain registrant rights.

Squarespace, one of the largest domain registrars with over 13 million domains, has joined Internet Commerce Association (ICA), the organization announced today. Additionally, Kevin Doerr, Senior Vice President, Head of Domains & Applications at Squarespace, is joining the group’s board.

Internet Commerce Association represents domain name owners and helps protect their rights. Given Squarespace’s customer base, joining the organization makes sense.

For years, Squarespace expanded its domain name base primarily by customers registering domains for sites they created on Squarespace. Then, in 2023, the company acquired Google Domains, significantly expanding the types of domain registrants it served. The company also started monetizing its domains by auctioning expired inventory through GoDaddy. Many buyers of those domains are ICA members.

Squarespace is joining ICA at the Platinum level, which requires an annual contribution of $25,000 or more. Other Platinum members include Sedo, GoDaddy, NameBright, and ParkingCrew.

This means two advertisers in this year’s Super Bowl are ICA members, for those keeping track at home.
