ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd., an Indian company that runs the ride-hailing app Ola, has lost (PDF) a cybersquatting complaint it filed against the valuable domain ola.com.

The domain name registrant became the owner of the domain after lending money to the previous registrant. The previous registrant died and did not pay the debts; an Oregon court later awarded the domain to the current registrant.

The panel found against ANI on the issues of rights or legitimate interests, as well as registration and use in bad faith.

According to the domain owner, he has two competing seven-figure offers for the domain name, one of which was from the Complainant.

The panel declined to find reverse domain name hijacking. The three-person World Intellectual Property Organization panel suggested that the Complainant was not aware of some aspects of the domain’s history and did not file the case in bad faith.

Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan represented the Complainant, and John Berryhill represented the domain name owner.
