COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles will move to a new website domain and email address in early 2026, a change officials say will help customers easily confirm they are engaging with the legitimate agency — not scammers.
Beginning January 5, 2026, the agency’s website will become dmv.sc.gov, with all agency email addresses shifting to the @dmv.sc.gov domain on the same date.
For at least the full calendar year, current URLs and addresses — including scdmvonline.com and @scdmv.net email — will automatically redirect and forward, ensuring customers won’t see any interruption in access.
The agency says the move is intended to protect consumers, particularly after scammers in 2025 sent fraudulent texts designed to mimic the agency, sometimes using deceptively similar URLs.
“The new website address will make it clear to South Carolinians that they are dealing directly with us, which will be an added barrier to fraud,” said Kevin Shwedo, executive director of the SCDMV.
Officials say the new address also aligns with the governor’s policy goal of standardizing state agency domains.
Officials say customers will still be able to complete many services online at the new site — including renewing vehicle registration, updating an address, turning in a plate and replacing lost or stolen decals — without visiting a branch.
