Company claims domain was re-registered since it was founded in 2009.
Boot and accessories company Freebird Life has filed an in rem cybersquatting lawsuit (pdf) against Freebird .com, asking a court to transfer the domain to it.
The domain freebird .com is very valuable; freegbird is registered in 133 top level domains.
When I searched the term on Google today, the top results were for the Freebird head shaver, the plaintiff in this case (which uses freebirdstores.com), an app called Freebird, a Wikipedia page for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s song “Free Bird”, Freebird Chicken, and Freebirds burrito restaurant.
The boot company’s lawsuit includes screenshots of parked page ads on the domain with ads for boots and related products. When I typed the domain in today, it forwarded through zero click to a supplements site.
Freebird Life was founded in 2009. Freebird .com was registered in 1997. It’s unclear if the domain has changed hands since the plaintiff was founded, but the plaintiff alleges the domain was “re-registered” annually for the past few years.
Wiley Rein LLP is representing the plaintiff.
