Oink! Porkbun hits 3 million domain names

Registrar that doesn’t take itself too seriously marks another milestone.

Domain name registrar PorkBun announced today that it now has over three million domains under management, just about 15 months after it hit the two million mark. Its website reports these domains are registered by over 450,000 customers.

Porkbun has grown almost entirely by word of mouth. When I read online requests from people looking for a domain name registrar, I often see that they recommend using Porkbun. I also occasionally hear about the registrar from people in the tech space that I know.

The registrar has won market share with what I’d describe as a three-prong approach:

  1. Simple, low pricing. For most domains, it charges a $1 markup plus its transaction costs
  2. Easy interface with no upsells
  3. A humorous approach that makes you smile

Don’t underestimate the power of the third one.

As of the end of June, the company had 1.2 million .com domains under management. It has undoubtedly increased since then; this suggests that just under half of its registrations are .com.

According to ntldstats.com, Porkbun has about 900,000 new top level domain registrations, led by .xyz.
