BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Butte County Government will be changing its domain from “buttecounty.net” to “buttecounty.ca.gov” to comply with a new state law.
According to the Butte County Department of Information Systems, the target date to transition over to the new “dot gov” domain is April of 2026.
The goal is to strengthen cybersecurity and increase public trust by ensuring government websites and email addresses are secure and easy to identify. The “dot gov” domain is only available to government entities in the United States.
Butte County will change over from using the current “buttecounty.net” to the new “buttecounty.ca.gov” with the .net domain active for website and email use for up to two years after the switch.
