Change makes it more difficult for third-party tools to track rankings beyond the top 10.
Google has made a subtle change to its search results pages that makes it harder for site owners to track their rankings: the company has removed the ability to show up to 100 search results by eliminating the parameter &num=100.
Third-party tools that track rankings, such as Ahrefs, rely on this parameter to check the top 100 sites for search terms.
Now, they are limited to checking the top 10 results without using workarounds.
While the first page of Google is where most clicks come from, viewing lower rankings helps site owners see improvements to their rankings and opportunities for improvement.
Google offers its own tool for site owners called Google Search Console, but it isn’t as robust as third-party tools.
