Ever since BigCommerce (Nasdaq: BIGC) acquired commerce.com for $2.444 million earlier this year, the question has been what it would do with the domain.

Today, the company announced a new parent company brand, Commerce. It’s also changing its stock ticker on the NASDAQ to CMRC.

Commerce said the unified brand, which will be the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics and Makeswift, will prepare the company for the AI future.

The company said commerce is changing rapidly as stores can no longer count on traditional organic search traffic and paid search ads to drive traffic, and it is focusing on how to deliver sales in this new environment.

Commerce is a very generic brand that will be difficult to create traction around. However, owning the domain Commerce.com will help.
